How to maintain your jewellery properly?

Tips and tricks

Femme Adorée's jewellery is crafted from the most precious materials: gold and diamonds. Both are highly durable materials that you will enjoy for a lifetime. However, you will get even more pleasure from the beauty of our jewellery if you maintain it well. We are happy to give you a few tips.

Preserve the golden shine

Precious metals are almost always softer than other materials they come into contact with. Rings, in particular, are very sensitive because we wear them on our hands. It's inevitable that tiny scratches will appear over time. As a result, they may look less shiny after a while.

Also, frequently exposing your jewellery to water and chemicals can affect the lifespan of the gold. Once again, rings are the most affected. The best thing you can do to make sure your gold jewellery retains its shine for as long as possible is to not wear it during (heavy) work, washing dishes, swimming, cleaning, or sleeping.

The best way to keep jewellery shiny is to occasionally rub it gently with a cotton cloth. You can also clean your jewellery by making a lukewarm solution with some soft soap and polishing it with a soft cloth or a soft toothbrush. There are also polishing cloths available for gold jewellery. In any case, never use polish or products containing chemicals.

Guaranteed brilliant gemstones and diamonds

Gemstones can discolour if they are exposed to bright sunlight for a long time. Some gemstones, such as amethyst, aquamarine, and smoky quartz, are extra sensitive to this. Therefore, be mindful of which jewellery you wear while sunbathing. When you're not wearing jewellery with coloured stones for a long time, don't store it in unprotected spots with a lot of sunlight. For example, a pendant on a windowsill is not a good idea.

Diamonds, in turn, lose their shine due to skin oil, grease, soap, or creams. We therefore recommend cleaning your diamonds thoroughly at least once a month so they retain their beautiful sparkle.

You can also do this with a lukewarm solution of soft soap and water. Do not use a cloth for this, but a soft toothbrush. The bristles of the toothbrush will get well between the settings, so the dirt and grease are removed from there as well. When you're done, rinse the jewellery well so that no soap residue remains. Finally, you can wipe the piece dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Very simple maintenance

The basic rule for properly maintaining jewellery is actually very simple: prevention is better than cure. Therefore, take off your jewellery when you exercise, do manual labour, clean, sleep, or come into contact with chemical products... And store it in its original box when you're not wearing it.
